China: Air pollution alerts in 79 cities

Hazardous levels of pollution recorded in 79 cities; exercice caution

 

Air pollution alerts have been triggered in 79 cities across China due to severe winter smog.

The affected cities, which include the capital Beijing, are located in the regions of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and of the northern Yangtze River delta - including the Jiangsu province - , as well as in the Fenwei plains area of Shanxi (Shaanxi and Henan provinces). 

 

The air pollution could also be hazardous to certain groups of people:

  • children,
  • seniors,
  • pregnant women,
  • people suffering from asthma and other respiratory issues.
  • air pollution can be harmful to heart health, as it increases the likelihood of a heart attack. 


Individuals present in China are advised to avoid affected areas, monitor the air quality situation, limit outdoor activity, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
