Chinese New Year 2020

14 January 2020

Chinese New Year 2020

Chinese New Year for 2020 officially begins on January 25th 2019, and ends on February 8th. This year is the year of the rat.

Specifically, it is an opportunity for millions of Chinese to gather with family to celebrate the New Year, in 2020, the Metal Rat! Legend has it that only twelve animals had responded to the invitation of the Jade Emperor for the New Year, which gives its origin to the Chinese Zodiac: to thank them, each was given a year.

If you're planning on travelling to China to celebrate the Chinese New Year your travel health needs will depend on your individual situation, including: the areas you intend to visit, how long you'll stay, what you’ll be doing and your general health.

Many of the health problems experienced by travellers cannot be prevented by vaccinations and other measures need to be taken. These include food and water safety, accident prevention, care with sun exposure, avoiding insect bites and animal bites, and practicing good respiratory hygiene.

As preparations begin for the big event on January 25, health services fear the recent escalation of a strange, pneumonia-like illness

Before leaving, a consultation with a travel health professional is required at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance. If you are leaving soon, it is never too late to consult.

Happy New Year to all our Chinese and Asian travelers
