COVID-19: Ottawa extends special measures for travellers from China
Health Canada extends the requirement for travellers from China, Hong Kong and Macau to test negative for COVID-19 prior to departure for Canada.
The ministry justifies its decision based on the increase in the number of cases in China since the major decontamination in December, but also on "limited data" shared by China, particularly with regard to the identification of variants of concern.
Extending these measures will provide access to new sources of reliable data and allow time for the expected waves in China to subside,"it says.
The test must be completed no later than two days prior to departure.
The requirement applies to all travellers two years of age and older, regardless of vaccination status.
People who are only in transit for less than 24 hours in the specified countries before arriving in Canada are excluded from this measure.
