ICAO: New recommendations on COVID risk management for air travel
ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) has just issued strengthened recommendations to countries on risk management and the introduction of national COVID-19 requirements for air travel.
"This new ICAO bulletin clearly highlights that as more States lift their COVID-19-related cross-border restrictions for air travellers, it is important, in order to increase air transport connectivity and improve facilitation worldwide, that pandemic-related restrictions be introduced and maintained only on the basis of evidence-based risk management and in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) and ICAO recommendations and guidance," said Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO.
"The bulletin notes the need for regular and thorough risk assessments based on evidence and comparable indicators, in addition to assessing applicable public health resources in originating and destination states, ensuring good communication among the various stakeholders involved, and balancing the risk to public health with the need for continued services," says Salvatore Sciacchitano, ICAO Council Cnef
