Thai residents on alert over dengue fever ahead of raining season

BANGKOK, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in Thailand on Wednesday warned the residents about the risk of dengue fever as the raining season is approaching.

The BMA said it is putting in place several preventive measures as dengue fever shares similar symptoms to COVID-19.

Silapasuai Rawisaengsun, the BMA permanent secretary warned people to eradicate the ideal mosquito breeding ground of stagnant water.

She said 1,295 dengue patients were recorded from Jan. 1 to April 20, and the largest number of patients at 446 cases was in the age group between 25-29 years, according to the statistics of the BMA-run hospitals.

She assigned the BMA's medical service department, health department and district offices to launch a public relations campaign to prevent dengue outbreaks in the communities.

Anyone who has flu-like symptoms should wear masks, and if they take fever-reducing medicines and the conditions do not improve in two days, they should see the doctor.
